Meredith Gaffney, MPH Director
Meredith holds over 20 years of international public health experience working with nonprofits, bilateral organizations, and the United Nations. Meredith served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Ecuador (1997-1999) and holds a Master in Public Health from Tulane University. She joined the MPH team as an adjunct professor in 2020 and became the Director of the MPH program in 2021.
Leticia DaSilva Orozco, Ed.D.
Completed her undergraduate work at the University of Connecticut in Kinesiology and Nutrition, obtained a Master of Science from Southern Connecticut State University in Human Performance, and later earned a Doctorate in Education, with a concentration in International Studies, from the University of Bridgeport. She has worked in Higher Education for over 18 years, and her passion is centered around student success, student development, student well-being, social justice, health education, community health, cultural competency, and training the next generation.
Maritza Bond, MPH
Maritza Bond is a dedicated health professional experienced in local, state, and federal services and mandates. She is the new Director of Public Health in New Haven after being the Director of Public Health and Social Services for the city of Bridgeport. Her expertise includes promoting community health using policy, system, and collective impact framework.
Margaret Zayan, EdD, RDH, MPH
Dr. Zayan is an Associate Professor at the University of Bridgeport and Coordinator of the Undergraduate Health Sciences curriculum in community health education. She is one of the founding members of the MPH program and teaches in the BS-HSCI, MPH, and DHSc programs. Prior to her current position, she held the titles of dean and director of the Fones School of Dental Hygiene – University of Bridgeport. In addition to public health and dental hygiene academic positions, Dr. Zayan worked for the Colorado Migrant Health Department, the United States Agency for International Development, CARE International, and the United States State Department.
